FDG provided master planning, programming, architectural design, and construction administration services of this 1960s vintage technical school that included additions and renovations totaling 40,000 SF.  The $6.3 million program features a new Library/Media Center, an Auto Collision Repair Center, and the Technology Annex/Education Center, which has become the new focal point for the campus.  Centered on a 10,000 SF multipurpose hall, the Technology Annex serves large lectures or other events of the College, as well as seminars for local business or community groups.  Moveable partitions allow subdivision of the hall into four smaller spaces, as needed.  A catering kitchen provides food service for events at the multipurpose hall.  The Education Center also includes a large computer lab, a distance learning facility, and several multipurpose classrooms.

The design responds to the client’s request for a modern image that is also in keeping with the pastoral mountain setting, resulting in a style described as “high-tech rustic.”  The building’s masonry exterior is a mixture of stacked marble from local quarries and traditional red brick to match the existing building complex.  The main lobby and prefunction area is enclosed by tiered glass curtain wall with exposed steel columns, and an acoustical wood slat ceiling with a natural finish.  The Technology Annex and Library /Media Center are linked by an arbor that provides outdoor seating and study areas and screens the original building.
