THE FULL STORY
FDG, in association with Dunwody/Beeland Architects, provided architectural services for the new Central High School project, and associated area redevelopment. Working closely with the school and the community, the design team developed solutions to help the school maintain its historic integrity while providing students with the latest in educational learning facilities.
The new facility includes a new Fine Arts Center with Black Box Theatres and Visual/Performing Arts Units. The design is also reminiscent of some of the school’s original features in order to capture the history of the Napier Avenue campus.
Located on a tight site, the project presents a number of challenges, and the team considered different multi-story options to accommodate the site restrictions. The project was managed on a phased construction schedule in order to maintain daily operations and minimize disruption to the student population. The design was managed utilizing Building Information Modeling in order to expedite the design process.
