THE FULL STORY
Located on a prominent site on the north side of the campus, the new College of Information Technology building is a keystone building for Georgia Southern University. The 149,000 SF facility is home to the College’s Computer Sciences, Information Systems, and Information Technology Departments. Featuring a two-story atrium lobby that looks out onto the campus, the new building includes classrooms, lecture halls, and computer laboratories, as well as a 240-seat auditorium and a 4,700 SF bookstore. Support spaces include faculty offices, student services and other building infrastructure areas. A cutting-edge instructional facility, most classrooms and labs feature video conferencing and audio-visual systems that can be controlled from a central location, as well as fully integrated network connectivity at every desktop for both students and faculty.
This project was selected as the “First place winner of the 2004 Design Build Project in the Public Sector,” the “2004 Design Build Project of the Year” (Design Build Institute of America) and the “Outstanding Design of a Specialized Facility” (American Schools and University Architectural Portfolio, 2004).
