THE FULL STORY
The Pickens County School Board retained FDG to provide services for expansion to their Elementary and Middle Schools and also to design the new Pickens High School. The firm’s services included facility space programming with the Pickens County professional education staff, students and local citizens, who all gave valuable input into their vision for a “community school.”
The high school houses 1,000 students in grades 9-12 and was designed for potential future expansion to increase the capacity to 1,250 students. Pickens High School contains 53 instructional units, including group teacher planning rooms that facilitate team teaching, skylights in the library and stairwells, and in response to teachers requests, outside windows in all classrooms.
Design for PHS was completed within a very aggressive schedule. The project, from programming through completion of construction, was implemented in 20 months.
